Day walks

Day walks are usually in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty that are easily accessible by train from London. This includes the Chiltern Hills, North Downs, Greensand Hills and South Downs. There are also day walks on the edge of London such as Epping Forest and along the coast. The average walking distance is around 10-12 miles (but distances can be anything from 5 to 20 miles depending on the walk). We do take our walking seriously but we also try to have a fun time so day walks usually include the option of a lunchtime pub and sometimes a tea shop in the afternoon. Sometimes, for example in more mountainous areas, we have a picnic instead.

Evening walks
In the summer when there is longer daylight we also have historical, cultural and sightseeing walks in and around Central London.

Weekend or longer walking trips
On trips away we stay overnight in places that are cheap and can accommodate groups. Often these are youth hostels or independent "backpacker" hostels; sometimes we use other accommodation such as B&Bs, camping, bunkhouses, outdoor activity centres, budget hotels, pubs and self-catering apartments.

Coach trips
Day walks and weekend/longer trips are organised by individual members. However we also have coach trips up to four times a year organised by the CLOG committee - to take members further afield in the UK to National Parks or areas that are less easy to reach by public transport. On these trips arrangements are often made for the group to have exclusive use of the hostel where we are staying. The cost includes transport, accommodation and sometimes a Saturday night meal organised by the group.

Overseas trips

We also have a few overseas trips each year. Some of these are walking trips and others are sightseeing trips. These trips use Eurostar or cheap flights and often involve renting a self-catering villa or holiday apartment.

Other outdoor activities

We also offer occasional opportunities for other outdoor activities such as cycling and water sports such as canoeing and sailing.

Organise your own trip or activity
The group welcomes new people and new ideas. If you would like to lead a trip the current CLOG Bookings Co-ordinator will be happy to advise.
