What are we like?

Our members are of all ages - coming from all walks of life and many different nationalities. The group does not have any religious or political affiliations.

Getting to know people
A lot of people join on their own knowing no members, but it doesn't have to remain that way for long. We try to be open and friendly. The best events for getting to know people are trips away but there is also an opportunity to meet people on day walks and other events.

Social events

We are also a social club and have many social events. A regular meeting is held usually on the 2nd Thursday of each month. This is held at various venues depending on the event. Please check the events pages on our website to find out where we will be. Members also organise lots of other social events (trips to restaurants, plays, films etc), as well as weekday evening walks in the summer.

How we started

We are a well-established group; 2012 will be our 75th birthday. We were originally set up as a local group of the Youth Hostels Association and are still affiliated to the YHA although we stay in other accommodation as well as hostels.

How we organise events

The club is run by its members and for its members. All members are welcome to organise events. There is an elected committee but there are no paid staff. We are run as a not-for-profit group so trips and events aim to cover their costs but not to make a profit.
